Do-It-Yourself Pictures

The Do-It-Yourself Option provides a mechanism for you maintain many areas of your web site without specialized software like MS FrontPage 2003 and without a webmaster.

You can use Photo software, MS Word, MS Publisher, Adobe Acrobat or any other desktop software that creates files in PDF or HTML format.  You can also try various other formats that are web friendly.  MS Word created this file.

TIP
Each month replace this file with your current Pictures.  Also, place your pictures/ albums/slide shows in the Pictures Folder filed in the correct year folder for archival purposes.

How to do it?
We created this page with MS Word.
We set the background color for the page (Format à Background).

We created Text Boxes (Insert à Text Box à Horizontal) and drew the text box to the size we wanted.  We arranged the text boxes as shown.

To add background color to the Title bar, we selected text box (click it), Format à Borders and Shading à Shading Tab and pick your color and click OK.  To change the Font Color, use the font color tool on the tool bar or select the text, Format à  Font à Font Color.

To add pictures, Insert à Picture à {source of Picture ... usually From File}.  If you have created a folder with pictures uploaded from your camera or sent to you by a club member, use From File and find the file.

Use Format Picture to make adjustments (right click picture for option).

It is a good idea to create a folder on your desktop to hold documents that you plan to upload to your web site.  Create a folder called Upload-to-Club (or whatever you want to name it).

We saved the file as pictures.htm into Upload-to-Club folder on our desktop for later uploading to Club Folder. (FILE à SAVE AS à File Name = pictures and Save As Type = Web Page).  Please note, the file name suffix (.htm) is added automatically by MS Word when you specify the “Save As Type” as Web Page.

Now, we save the file again as Sample-Album-2006-10 into Upload-to-Club folder on our desktop for later uploading to the Pictures Folder (our archival folder for Pictures where pictures are stored in Year folders).  (FILE à SAVE AS à File Name = Sample-Album-2006-10 and Save As Type = Web Page).

Besides the files you just created, pictures.htm and Sample-Album-2006-10, MS Word creates a folder called pictures_files which holds the pictures contained in the two files you just created.

It is very important to copy this file into both the Club folder and the Pictures folder each time you update your pictures with a MS Word document.
