While
this class is designed for newcomers, it
is also quite suitable for anyone seeking a review of modern-style bidding. We use Audrey Grant’s
excellent book, Bridge Basics I ($12), which thoroughly explains basic
opening bids, responses, and rebids. Second hour of play uses sample hands to
reinforce the lesson.

Tactical Modern Bidding
Intermediates
Similar in format
to the popular Thursday morning Fall 09 series, we start with an hour lesson on
standard competitive bidding (see below), then follow with an hour of illustrative
play hands, and end with supervised shuffle & deal play. A must class for
aspiring duplicate players.
Covered
in depth
· Tactical
opening bids in third and fourth seat
· Overcalls
(simple, jump, NT, two-suited) and advances
· Takeout
doubles, advances, and doubler’s rebid
· Balancing
(re-opening the bidding following two passes)
·
Bidding after Interference (a very big topic!)
·
Negative doubles (a key competitive bidding
tool)
·
Preemptive bids (weak two & three bids and
responses)
These topics will enhance your competitive skills and
give you a fighting chance in the arena of duplicate bridge. Not for social
players! Excellent color handouts. Teacher:

Bridge Basic
II: Competitive Bidding
Advanced
Beginners, Low Intermediates
As
the next step for beginner class graduates, Bridge Basics II introduces the
exciting world of 21st Century competitive bidding. We use Audrey Grant’s book,
Bridge Basics II: Competitive Bidding ($12),
which gives you modern-style bidding tools in order to compete effectively with
the opponents for the contract. The perfect sequel for newer players. Half
lesson; half practice play.

New!! New!! New!!
Saturday Afternoon Novice Game
The
novice game is a gentle way to get introduced to the competitive world of
duplicate bridge, which can be somewhat intimidating with all its procedural
rules and multiple personalities. In time, when sufficiently confident and
ready, you can move to the tougher/rougher weekday games.
Play
18 boards (shuffle & deal) for masterpoints. ACBL sanctioned.
The
game will be introduced with a short talk on rules and etiquette, and/or on the
convention card - how to fill it out box by box, and what partnership agreements
to use. Director: Guy Germer
